Marjorie Helen, daughter of Harry and Helen Smith Olesen, was born May 16, 1932, at West Union, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union.  She received her education in the West Union Public Schools, graduating from West Union High School in 1950. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On April 25, 1953, she was united in marriage with Richard E. Smith at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. She was a farm wife and mother, and occasionally substitute taught at school.  Later in life, she briefly worked at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette. She had been a member of P.E.O., was a 4-H leader, enjoyed doing genealogy, and loved to travel. Her greatest joy, however, was her time spent with her family.
